      Luna (she/her) is a seasoned consultant with 25 years of experience in non-profit and for profit sectors in strategy, community and organizational development An articulate  communicator, recognized for advocating and fostering social justice policies based  on diversity and inclusion. Luna evolved her legal education background and expertise into a distinguished career. She has held leadership roles managing  corporate multi-cultural/inclusion initiatives, complemented by experience as an  entrepreneur.

 

      In her current role as Founding Board member and Executive Director for Utah  Muslim Civic League, she has established a network to amplify Muslim voices across  the state at multiple forums. She is investing strategic initiatives in government and  policy by engaging with those circles at the highest levels and developing an active  constituency around policy. Today, UMCL advocates for social justice reform  through public policies that celebrate diversity and prioritize the inclusion of all  Utahns into civic life and community building.

 

      She is the founder and director of TeleTaleem, a non-profit enterprise focusing on  helping leverage the power of technology, innovative approaches, and partnerships  to solve the toughest global development challenges in Education in her native  country of Pakistan. She possesses domestic and international experience in Gender, Media, Education, and has established businesses and products and has been a consultant to the UNDP, UNICEF, ADB and World Bank. She has a track record of  translating her original ideas, and the ideas of individuals and teams, into  implementable plans and sustainable businesses. She uses her interdisciplinary  experience, community development background, and academic training to tackle  social justice issues across diverse assignments. Last 15 years of her career have been  a blend of entrepreneurship and disciplined strategy.

 

      She relocated to Salt Lake City from Chicago in late 2014 and has been entrenched  in the local community by the virtue of her global experiences. She has dedicated  significant time to policy issues of local/global education, interfaith initiatives and to foster better ways of advocating for social justice policies and reform based on  diversity and inclusion of all minorities in the community and being a citizen  diplomat representing voice of diverse women in the valley at multiple forums.

 

      She was appointed to the Mayor of Salt Lake City’s Human Rights Commission in  2018 and to the Governor of Utah’s MLK Commission in 2019. Salt Lake County’s  Council on Diversity Affairs (2020), Racial Equity in Police Commission (2021) and  to the Board of State’s Criminal Justice Advisory Council (CJAC) in 2021.

 

      Her board service includes Institute of Social Policy and Understanding (ISPU),  Utah Council for Citizen Diplomacy, Salt Lake Arts Academy, Spy Hop, Utah  Women in Film and Television, Emerald Project, Tanner Center for Human Rights,  Utah Presents and UVU’s Interreligious Advisory Council, American Muslim Civic  Leadership Institute (USC), Tanner Humanities Center, Governor’s Refugee  Advisory Board and World Trade Center of Utah’s MENA Board.

 

      She volunteers as President of the IB/AP Parent committee at West High School and  is the founder of Utah Muslim Women’s Alliance. She is also on the leadership team  of Utah women and politics PAC.

 

      Luna is fellow of the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce “Leadership Utah” program.  She is also a graduate/fellow of American Muslim Civic Leadership Institute, USC.  She was recently selected to the inaugural cohort of the Public Leaders for Inclusion  Council by America Indivisible and Aspen Institute Inclusive America Project. She  was also on the Executive Committee for the Parliament of World Religions  Conference held in SLC.

 

      Her passion remains her three rambunctious teenagers who can best be described  as social justice champions and are currently absorbed by their college careers out  of state.
