My name is Gitanjali (Gia) Mishra. As a first-generation Indian-American raised in a small town in Idaho, growing up made me feel isolated, as I was the only Desi girl across town. Reconnecting with cultural traditions allowed me to learn more about myself, though I still yearned for a supportive South Asian community. Joining DAWN fulfills this.

Eager to share my parts of my heritage, my IB Senior Project involved designing henna crowns to uplift cancer patients and performing piano at retirement homes. This allowed me to aid my community while celebrating cultural arts and music.

I am pursuing a PhD in Materials Science at the University of Utah, driven by my childhood wonder of nature. My role in the Nano-Materials Lab upholds environmentalism and energy conservation. After my graduation in 2026, I aim to tackle climate issues and uplift disadvantaged communities through technology and resources. Beyond research, I enjoy singing, reading, meditation, cooking, dancing, and watching Bollywood films. I am also a yoga teacher who promotes well-being and the importance of womanhood and community.

I am grateful to be part of an organization led by empowering women who celebrate, cherish, and guide one another. Being part of DAWN makes me confident in the power of beautiful change with supportive sisterhood—one I am proud to be part of.
