DAWN is excited to offer opportunities to create meaningful social and professional connections with other South Asian women. As the Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yusufzai has said, “I think realizing that you’re not alone, that you are standing with millions of your sisters around the world is vital.”
All too often, we find ourselves in situations where we seek connections with others who understand our stories, family histories, cultures, social dynamics, and more, but are left explaining decades of knowledge in a few simple sentences to someone who has not lived our shared experiences. At DAWN, we hope to bring South Asian women in community with one another, filling the gaps in our day to day lives when our social and professional personas only reflect a fraction of our authentic selves. We believe uniting and coming together as South Asian women is necessary to create a supportive network for the advancement and development of the modern South Asian woman.
Taking advantage of the digital world we live in, DAWN plans to offer both in-person and virtual opportunities to build such connections via programming designed to bring us together. First and foremost, DAWN members will have access to the full directory of DAWN members, including regional information so members can identify like-minded individuals in their local communities. Our online community will also offer webinars and conversations led by experts covering topics such as mental health, financial independence, social justice, career growth, and staying connected to our roots to name a few.
We value the benefits of safe, in-person connection and plan to offer purposeful monthly meetups across our regional chapters to develop deeper and meaningful relations. These meetups will be coordinated by local ambassadors and will rotate through social opportunities, professional development opportunities, and even physical activities to generate new bonds.
Down the road, we aim to grow our network of corporate and business partners by establishing an e-commerce platform featuring South Asian creators, leaders and allies.
